— Raleigh police have identified the woman who was with a Raleigh doctor before a fatal wreck Sept. 11.

According to police, Raymond Dwight Cook, 42, of 10516 Beckridge Lane, was traveling 90 mph in a 45-mph zone when he crashed into the back of a vehicle driven by Elena Bright Shapiro of Winston-Salem.

She died in the crash. He faces charges of second-degree murder, driving while impaired and reckless driving. He is out of jail on a $250,000 bond.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said Wednesday that authorities know who was with Cook at Piper's Tavern on Falls of Neuse Road before the wreck. He did not make the woman's name public or say whether she was cooperating with the investigation.
