— Human remains found in a ravine below the Grove Street bridge have been identified as those of a homeless woman, Fayetteville police said Monday.

Casandra Parker Manor, 40, lived under the bridge, police said. Her cause of death was ruled as an accidental drowning. Police said they believe she fell into the ravine.

On Friday, crews recovered her remains, which had been found a day earlier at the bottom of a 12- to 15-foot ravine under the bridge.

A homeless man reported the smell and sight of remains, police said.

Attempts to retrieve the remains were unsuccessful Thursday because dirt repeatedly caved in on the site as crews closed in, police said.

The Fayetteville Fire Department's Collapse, Search and Rescue Unit shored up the walls of the ravine to gain access to the area.

Authorities were able to determine that the remains belonged to a white woman and had been in the ravine for about four days.
