Police: Father shot dog after it attacked, killed infant
Police in Hampton, Virginia, are investigating the death of an infant attacked by a family dog.

According to the Hampton Police Division, officers were called to a home on Scotland Road on Monday around 3:15 a.m. Before officers arrived, the child's father had killed the dog, which was found in the backyard, officials said.
The infant was pronounced deceased at the scene by first responders, and animal control officers removed the dog, a mixed-breed German Shepherd.
An investigation revealed the infants’ parents were sleeping in their bed but awakened by movement. The family said their dog had not been previously aggressive, officials said.
