Police looking for Durham man accused of shooting girlfriend, firing shots at her aunt

Durham police are looking for a man suspected of two shootings believed to be connected overnight.

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are looking for a man suspected of two shootings believed to be connected overnight.

The shootings happened roughly three miles apart, the first of which occurred Friday around 1:30 a.m. on Tranquil Road as a man shot his girlfriend twice, police said. The woman was the fifth person shot in Durham in a matter of hours.

Rodney Duane Johnson, 41, of Durham, was charged with assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Johnson is not in custody and police consider him armed and dangerous.

The girlfriend's injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Around 15 minutes later on Chapel Hill Road, the same shooter went to the girlfriend's aunt's home at Valley Terrace Apartments and fired shots into the home, according to police. No one was hurt.

Around 4:30 a.m., police had a home on Tranquil Road taped off at an active scene.

Another shooting occurred in Durham overnight where four people were shot in the 1600 block of Holloway Street. Two people were killed in that shooting.
