FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man was arrested after authorities said he hit two people with his car at a convenience store on Wednesday, killing one of them, according to court documents.

Mackenzie Lee Jackson, 27, was charged with hit-and-run resulting in death and attempted first-degree murder. He was arrested in Greensboro.

An arrest warrant states Jackson hit a man and a woman in behind Quick Stop Discount Tobacco, along the 500 block of Grove Street in Fayetteville, and tried to hit other pedestrians in the parking lot with his 2007 Saturn Ion.

The male victim, identified as Anthony Bernard Robinson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was seriously injured and transported to a hospital. She was expected to recover.

A witness said the argument broke out about cigarettes or drugs.

“Things like that can happen over the smallest little thing,” Casey Adams said. “I don’t understand why people have to go to such lengths just to get a cigarette or some drugs. It’s not cool.”

Anyone with information about the case can call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-366-5853 or the Fayetteville / Cumberland County Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).

Editor's note: WRAL News previously reported that two men had been struck. This story has been updated with information from Jackson's arrest warrant.
