FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A driver died late Thursday night after crashing into a tree in Fayetteville, police said.

Fayetteville police officers responded after 11 p.m. to the single-vehicle crash along Pennsylvania Avenue near Ernest Street. The person was driving on Ernest Street before going through the intersection with Pennsylvania Avenue, running off the road and crashing into a tree.

The driver, identified as Eddie L. Arrington, 77, of Fayetteville, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Renan Wilson, 53, of Fayetteville, who was riding in the car, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with serious injuries.
