RALEIGH, N.C. — Police continued to search on Friday for a 57-year-old Raleigh man who has not been in contact with family members since Jan. 19.

A Silver Alert was issued on Jan. 21 for Gerald Lee Mitchell Jr., who is believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.

He is described as a white man, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 130 pounds. He has medium-length brown hair and blue eyes.

Mitchell was last seen wearing a black hat, black puffy coat, blue jeans and brown suede boots with fur.

Authorities said Mitchell walks with a slumped posture and slides or drags his feet while walking. He has a barbed-wire tattoo on one of his arms and is left-hand. He writes with a cupped “overhand” style. He typically wears a solid stainless steel bracelet on his right wrist and a necklace with a tiger eye stone that is shaped like a shark’s tooth.

No foul play is expected in Mitchell's disappearance.

Anyone who believes they have seen Mitchell is asked to call 911 or the Raleigh Police Department’s Detective Division at 919-996-3555.
