ROXBORO, N.C. — A woman was shot and killed early Friday morning in Roxboro when her home was hit by gunfire. The police chief told WRAL News this is the city's first murder of the year.

Roxboro police officers responded to 1396 Graham Drive before 2 a.m., where they found multiple shell casings. They also found Angela Jeffress, 56, who died from multiple gunshot wounds.

A city official who knew Jeffress told WRAL News she was well-known and loved by many. He said she was about to retire from her job at GKN Driveline in Timberlake, where she had worked for decades.

According to her family, Jeffress was sleeping when the drive-by shooting occurred. Bullet holes can be seen on the side of her home.

Roxboro police chief David Hess said, “These senseless acts of violence in our community must stop. The community is tired of seeing the pain families endure from gun violence.”

Jeffress is not believed to be the intended target of the shooting.

Hess is asking the community to step forward if they have any information at all about her killer – even footage recorded by Ring doorbells or posts seen on social media.

"If anybody has home videos, ring doorbells, if they heard anything, if they have anything from social media. No piece of information is too small. Everything matters. This family deserves justice," said Hess.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 336-599-8345 or the Tip Line at 336-322-6072.
