A low-speed chase of a stolen dump truck that started in Pineville and went several miles on I-485 ended in Cabarrus County Monday morning, WCNC Charlotte reports.

PINEVILLE, N.C. — A low-speed chase of a stolen dump truck that started in Pineville and went several miles on I-485 ended in Cabarrus County Monday morning, WCNC Charlotte reports.

Pineville police said they were following a John Deere dump truck that was reported stolen from a worksite in Lancaster, South Carolina, on Sunday. Officers spotted the truck Monday and tried to stop the driver.

A witness captured video of the low-speed chase and shared it with news outlets.

The driver led police on I-485 to Mint Hill before exiting the highway. The driver continued into Cabarrus County, where they stopped near some railroad tracks in an open field.

Police said the driver drove onto the tracks and went about a mile into the woods.

Cabarrus County deputies responded to the scene and immediately secured the truck, which was stolen.

The driver ran from the scene. K-9 officers were called in to help look for the driver on the ground.
