Police charge nephew in Fayetteville shooting

Officers responding to a shots fired call at 7038 Amarillo Drive on Monday afternoon found Ralph Winkfield Jr., 40, sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville Police arrested Zarron Winkfield, 26, on Monday for the shooting of his uncle.

Officers responding to a shots fired call at 7038 Amarillo Drive on Monday afternoon found Ralph Winkfield Jr., 40, sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

Winkfield was taken to Cape Fear Valley Hospital, where he died.

Zarron Winkfield was charged with first-degree murder and held in the Cumberland County Jail under no bond.
