RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man was found unconscious in a ravine near a wooded area Wednesday night.

The man, identified as 29-year-old Lamar Griffin of Cary, was pronounced dead at Rex Hospital.

Authorities said Raleigh police were searching for a missing person when they found Griffin in the woods in the 5000 block of Duraleigh Road.

According to Griffin's roommate, the pair was looking for a fishing area when Griffin mentioned he was having a difficulty breathing. His roommate, who was ahead of him by several yards, turned back to locate his friend, but could not locate him.

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office was called in to investigate because of the location of where the man was found.

The medical examiner’s office is conducting an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.
