Police: Burlington man assaulted stepson with shovel, poured gas on stepdaughter

Police arrested a Burlington man on Wednesday evening for assaulting his stepson with a shovel and throwing gasoline on his stepdaughter.

N.C. — Police arrested a Burlington man on Wednesday evening for assaulting his stepson with a shovel and throwing gasoline on his stepdaughter.

Burlington police officers responded around 5 p.m. to the 400 block of Bland Boulevard to a report of a man swinging a shovel at people. When officers arrived, they found Ronald Curtiss Strickland, 58, holding a lighter and pouring gasoline on his stepdaughter.

Officers were able to convince Strickland to drop the lighter, and he was taken into custody.

During the investigation, police discovered Strickland also assaulted his adult stepson with the shovel.

Strickland was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and malicious use of explosives or incendiary materials. He was jailed under a $50,000 bond.
