RALEIGH, N.C. — Police chased a vehicle Saturday evening through southeast Raleigh. The chase began just before 9 p.m. at the intersection of Montague Lane and Davie Street after a bicycle officer said he spotted Humberto Cruz-Nunez, 22, trying to pick up a prostitute. As the officer approached the car, the vehicle swerved and hit the officer.

Other officers then chased Nunez's vehicle, at speeds of 100 mph, down Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and into Knightdale, police said. Nunez drove back into Raleigh on U.S. Highway 264 and left his vehicle near New Bern Avenue, police said.

Nunez took off on foot but a K-9 caught him, police said. Nunez was taken to WakeMed for treatment of a dog bite injury. The bicycle officer was not injured.

Police said Nunez was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while impaired, driving with a revoked license and fleeing to elude police.
