The shooting happened Saturday night around 9:45 a.m. on Lake Park Court, police said. The 5-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital, but later pronounced deceased, according to authorities.
The boy's family has identified him as Xavier Smith.
Family member Asia Thompson said there is one thing she will remember most.
"His smile, his smile was gold, the boy was golden," she said.
"Xavier was the sweetest boy you could ever meet. His presence was infectious. He lit up the whole world when he smiled. He loved going to school, playing and watching sports with my family and loved wrestling. I will never be able to hold my first love in my arms again. I love you to the moon and back Booba. Please keep my family in your thoughts," Xavier's aunt, Laloni Burke, told FOX40.
A 6-year-old boy was also shot in the vicinity and is being treated for his injuries, police said. The boy's injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
Police said the young victims were with multiple groups of people in front of a residence on Lake Park Court when they were shot.
Detectives have not identified any suspects nor a motive.
"I want justice for Booba. Xavier needs justice, someone has to answer for this," Thompson said.
