RALEIGH, N.C. — Three people held a gun up to a person in a Raleigh Food Lion parking lot and stole that person's car, according to the Raleigh Police Department.

The armed robbery happened at the Food Lion on Avent Ferry Road at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities have not yet been able to recover the vehicle, a Toyota RAV4.

A spokesperson with the Raleigh Police Department said this case was unusual. Vehicle thefts are more common in Raleigh than carjackings, the spokesperson said.

Police said the carjackers were around 18 to 20 years old.

North Carolina State University Police sent an alert to students warning them about the armed robbery. It's not clear if any students were involved in the crime, but the Food Lion is near NC State on- and off-campus housing.
