Police: Shooting of 23-year-old Roxboro man a 'senseless murder'
A man was shot and killed Saturday night outside of an apartment complex.
Posted — UpdatedAround 10 p.m., officers with the Roxboro Police Department responded to a shooting at the Pine Ridge Apartments located at 1524 Pine Ridge Drive.
They found 23-year-old Jaleel Downey lying in the front yard of the complex. Downey was transported to Person Memorial Hospital and later pronounced dead.
Police arrested a suspect, Bennie Harris, following the shooting. Harris has been charged with first degree murder. “A mother and father lost their son tonight to a senseless murder," said Roxboro Police Chief David L. Hess.
Officials say Harris lived in the apartment complex. According to investigators, the two men were arguing before the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
