CARY, N.C. — A Cary man charged with possessing child pornography should be released on bond because he poses no risk to others or to flee, his lawyer wrote in a letter to Wake County magistrates.

Dylan Shane Matheson, 23, of 303 Trappers Sack Road, was charged Monday with 18 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor and was jailed under a $540,000 bond.

Arrest warrants state that photos of boys ages 6 to 8 engaged in sexual activity were found on his computer and that the alleged crimes happened between Oct. 17 and Oct. 25 of last year.

Defense attorney Daniel Blau asked for the bond to be lowered to $100,000, writing in his letter that Matheson has been undergoing counseling with a psychiatrist and with one of his ministers at The Point Church in Cary since October. Matheson lives with his parents, takes online classes at Liberty University and has a part-time job at a local pizza parlor, and he has no unsupervised computer access, Blau wrote in the letter.
