RALEIGH, N.C. — Police arrested a 20-year-old man Friday night after a boy was shot in the face in Raleigh.

Tahvier Jamell Cambridge is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Officers responded just before 11 p.m. to Sunbow Falls Lane in the northern part of the city after the shooting was reported.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to WakeMed for treatment. The severity of the boy's injuries was not released.

A woman who said she was the victim's mother told WRAL News the victim is Jaheem Conway, a sophomore at Millbrook High School.

She said she’s thankful Conway is alert, talking and expected to recover.

Conway’s older brother, Demetrich Witcher. said he and a few other young men were casually talking.

One of them had a handgun. Witchner said the gun fell out of one person’s pants and fired accidentally.

“The bullet could have gone either way,” Witchner said. “It caught him in the jaw.”

Rayshawn Lassiter lives on Sunbow Falls Lane and heard the shooting.

“There was a whole lot of lights and stuff out here, people running around,” he said.

Lassiter said the tragedy speaks to a greater message.

“You know, I’m a father of three kids,” he said. “We’ve all got to work together, in our community, around Raleigh, to stop the violence.”
