Police: 13-year-old dies after falling from hotel balcony in Chapel Hill

The Chapel Hill Police Department said a child is dead after falling from a hotel balcony Saturday.

Chapel Hill police said it is investigating the death of the 13-year-old, who fell from a balcony inside the Graduate Hotel at 311 West Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.

Police say the incident happened just before 11 p.m.

A 911 caller told dispatchers they saw the boy struggling to breathe after the fall and had visible bruises to his ribs.

"He's moaning," said one caller.

The child fell two stories from the hotel’s fifth floor to the third floor.

The circumstances leading to the fall are currently unknown.
