Poisoning Trial Begins in Onslow County

Kayla Allen's legal guardian, Carolyn Futrell, is charged with first-degree murder.

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — Testimony began Monday in the 2003 poisoning of an Onslow County 7-year-old.

Kayla Allen's legal guardian, Carolyn Futrell, is charged with first-degree murder.

Toxicology reports showed Kayla died after drinking insecticide.

Social services had investigated 13 allegations of neglect or abuse in the household before Kayla's death.
