Poe Center offers free lunches, health education this summer

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Poe Center for Health Education is offering free lunches every Wednesday for children this summer.

The lunches will be combined with health-education programming that delves into topics like nutrition, physical activity, dental health, summer safety and gardening.

The program is open to those 18 and younger and will be held at PlayWELL Park at the Poe Center at 224 Sunnybrook Road in Raleigh. Meals will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be followed by activities.

Dates and topics/activities:

  • Wednesday, June 15 - Drink water-theme with flavored water recipes and tastings.
  • Wednesday, June 22 - Kids' Zumba
  • Wednesday, June 29 - Dental health activities and free toothbrushes (while supplies last) with Dental Dental's new mascot debut, Emerald Pine tooth fairy.
  • Wednesday, July 6 - Summertime Safety
  • Wednesday, July 13 - Kids' Yoga with When Daddy Shows Me the Sky children's book author Rebecca Wheeler
  • Wednesday, July 20 - Honey tasting with Bee Downtown
  • Wednesday, July 27 - Make-and-Take Snacks with NC PTA
  • Wednesday, August 3 - Explore the GrowWELL Garden and activities with Marbles Kids Museum
