RALEIGH, N.C. — The home of Carolina Hurricanes hockey, NC State basketball, and some sold-out concerts is back open at full capacity for the first time in a year and a half.
Today, the concession stand gates are closed and the red seats circling the arena floor are empty, but it won't be long before capacity crowds fill PNC Arena again. It takes a part-time pool of about 1,000 employees to staff those events which can bring up to 20,000 fans.

PNC Arena needs to hire hundreds of people in a job market with shortages of workers. If the employee shortage impacts PNC, it could affect your experience at these popular events.

PNC Arena is looking to fill 500 part-time positions – and it's having to offer some incentives to attract job candidates in this competitive market.
Hurricanes president and general manager Don Waddell said they've increased hourly rates to compete for workers.

Part-time pay ranges from $10.50 to $20 per hour.

And for the first time, tips will be added through the all-cashless system.

"People when they’re using their credit cards and debit cards tend to tip more and it’s great for our workers and another incentive for people to come back and work," said Waddell.

Aside from financial incentives, PNC is also working to ensure people would feel safe coming to work there.

All employees will have to wear masks, which are only "recommended" for guests.

Waddell said he believes people are ready for a return to arena entertainment, even if some pandemic precautions remain in place.

"I think everything we do here, if we do it right, people are going to feel comfortable coming back out and have a good time," he said.

Waddell said most companies have been struggling to hire employees in the wake of the pandemic.

The Arena is holding a job fair here one week from today: Thursday, August 12 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Some jobs are open to teenagers as young as 16.

You can go online now to look at the positions and apply early.
