A true warm-up is on the way this week, with temperatures expected to top 80 degrees Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Triangle before our next cold front brings back closer to normal for early April.

Monday offers the greatest chance – although it is still only slight – for rain.

"Any small showers won't last long and will move pretty quickly through the area from northwest to southeast," said WRAL meteorologist Zach Maloch.

The warming temperatures will be a temptation to outdoor activity, and while hiking, bicycling, running and gardening are encouraged, social distancing recommendations are in effect. To keep the coronavirus from spreading, to stay healthy and to avoid infecting others, people are asked to stay 6 feet away from others.

By Tuesday, the high temperature should reach 80 degrees in Raleigh. The forecast calls for mostly clear skies Wednesday with a high of 85.

A few clouds creep back in Thursday, but it stays warm – with a high in the low 80s – before a cold front ushers in a cooler, breezy Friday.
