PlayMakers Repertory Company, the professional theater company in residence at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has announced its 2012-2013 season. The main-stage lineup includes popular theater mainstays, and the premieres of two specially commissioned works.

The main-stage season will open with the 2010 Tony Award-winner for best play, "Red" by John Logan. PlayMakers will follow that with the premiere of "Imaginary Invalid," a newly commissioned adaptation of the classic comedy by Molière. Come November, "It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” takes the stage. Early in 2013, the great American classic "A Raisin in the Sun" will run in rotating repertory with "Clybourne Park," a play that takes up where "Raisin" leaves off. The main-stage season ends in the Kit Kat Klub with the daring, disturbing Kander and Ebb musical drama, "Cabaret."

"Our new season features plays that touch all the senses and explore the emotional landscape of the human experience," PlayMakers producing artistic director Joseph Haj said. "There are stories of artistic and racial struggles, heartwarming family drama, scathing social commentary and dancing while the world burns. It's an exciting lineup of plays, which we're thrilled to bring to life for Triangle audiences."

PlayMakers will also present three thought-provoking shows in its second-stage season, the PRC2 series. The series will include Obie Award-winner "And God Created Great Whales," conceived and performed by Grammy Award-winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist Rinde Eckert, and a commissioned piece inspired by Igor Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring," to be written and performed by the innovative hip-hop theater troupe Universes. The third show has yet to be selected.
