Playground Review: Rolesville's Main Street Park
The park in downtown Rolesville includes new play equipment.Posted — Updated
And lucky for both of us, the town had recently added a very large, new play set to a park that already offered a nice-sized playground.
Main Street Park sits off Rolesville's South Main Street. Look for the large gazebo, which sits next to the Main Street entrance (there's another entrance on Scarboro Street as well). The playground sits behind the gazebo and a parking lot.
The new play set is best for older children. You'll find moving rings for climbing; a glider, which kids straddle to slide down; some very tall slides; and many different ways to climb.
The new play set follows a trend that we're seeing right now on playgrounds: Play pieces now offer multiple ways to play on them. So, instead of jumping on at one end of the monkey bars and off at the other, kids can, for instance, climb up either side of the rope climbing area or experiment with different ways to get to the top of the glider.
Across a paved trail, you'll find the older play area, which offers more typical play equipment and pieces for toddlers and preschoolers. There are swings for big kids and little ones here too. You'll also find more shade on this side of the park.
The park includes more than a mile of greenway trails, which moms at the park tell me are good for new bike riders or a quick walk or jog. Restrooms and picnic shelters sit near the play areas.
