RALEIGH, N.C. — Plastic will be accepted at experimental parking pay stations Raleigh plans to install along Hargett and Hillsborough streets.

On-street single-space pay stations will be installed at 200 W. Hargett St. and in the 2200 block of Hillsborough Street in December.

The city's contractor, Park Raleigh, will conduct a pilot test through May 2008. If feedback about the stations is positive, the city will replace all parking meters with the pay stations.

Both debit and credit cards will be accepted, and the stations will conduct real-time data transfer. Motorists can pre-pay for parking before 8 a.m. when pay parking hours begin.

To use the pay stations:

  • Remember your space number when you park.
  • Use the pay station’s keypad to enter the parking space number.
  • Use coins or a debit or credit card to pay the fee. Receipts do not need to be displayed in vehicles.

City officials said the technology would also improve the look of the streetscape.

For two weeks, Park Raleigh representatives will be near the pay stations to assist customers. For more information, contact the Park Raleigh office at 828-1020.
