RALEIGH, N.C. — Big changes are coming to a busy part of Cameron Village.

Raleigh City Council members are expected to get an update Tuesday morning on new bike lanes being added to Oberlin Road. The improvements are part of a project meant to change the streetscape near Cameron Village between Groveland Avenue and Bedford Avenue.

Currently, there are no bike lanes along the street, and the sidewalks are not user-friendly.

During Tuesday's meeting, council members will take a look at updated project renderings that show what streets between Clark Avenue and Bedford Avenue would look like after the addition of bike lanes.

According to the meeting agenda, the existing five-lane street section of Oberlin Road would turn into a three-lane street section with bike lanes and on-street parking as well as an improved transit stop.

A traffic study showed more than 20,000 cars drive along the road each day. According to the City of Raleigh's website, the project won't be complete until 2021.
