RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh is moving forward on plans to build a plaza and play area at Dix Park.

The city will hold the first public meeting for the so-called Dix Park Plaza & Play on Oct. 7. The meeting will take place virtually.

The plaza and play area is the first in a series of plans aimed at remaking and preserving the Dix Park campus, which sits near downtown Raleigh.

The plaza and play area stretches across 12 acres and sits on the southern edge of the park. It's intended to become the main entrance to Dix Park along Lake Wheeler Road, according to Dix Park's website.

Plans for the space include a "one of a kind" play space, civic plaza, fountain, garden and space for park patrons to gather. According to a video, plans include an "adventure playground with water play area and lookout tower."

The meeting on Oct. 7 will be the first of three public meetings to gather feedback about what the community wants on the site. The meeting will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 7. More information about how to participate is on Dix Park's website.
