Chatham County early voting locations are open on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
Andy Wilkie (R) was appointed to the Chatham County Board of Commissioners in May 2019 to fill the vacancy left by Walter Petty. He is running against Franklin Gomez Flores (Unaffiliated) for a full term on the board.

Four competitive Board of Education seats are on the ballot. Of the eight candidates running, District 1’s Alicia Chisolm (the current board chair), District 2’s Deanna Jones, District 4’s Donna Vann and District 6’s Joseph Sorce are all incumbents.
Six candidates are running for the three open Cumberland County Board of Commissioners seats in District 2. Of the candidates, three are incumbents: Chairman W. Marshall Faircloth (D), Michael C. Boose (R) and Jimmy Keefe (R).

Democrat Natalie Murdock was appointed to the North Carolina Senate representing Durham (District 20) in March 2020, replacing Floyd McKissick, Jr., who joined the North Carolina’s Utilities Commission by invitation from the governor. Murdock is a former Durham County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. She faces John Tarantino (R) as she runs for her first full term.
Five Democrats are running to join the Durham County Board of Commissioners. Brenda Howerton, Heidi Carter and Chair Wendy Jacobs are all incumbent candidates.

Candidates for seat 4 in the same district are Anthony W. Brown (D), a district court judge, and Mike Eatmon (R), an attorney.

Ernie Anderson was appointed to the Granville County Board of Commissioners in September after former member Owen Roberts’ death and did not run for a full term. On the ballot for the seat, representing District 5, is Joshua H. Averette (Unaffiliated), Donnie Boyd (D), and Russell May (R).

Four candidates are running for three seats on the non-partisan Weldon City Schools Board of Education. They are Kimberly Ann Robinson and Donna B. Harrison, as well as incumbents O.D. Sykes and Hugh C. Credle.

Howard Penny Jr. (R) was appointed in September to the former seat of David Lewis (R), who represented District 53. In a county where all four state representatives and one senator are Republican lawmakers, Penny Jr. is running against Sally Weeks Benson (D) and Zach Berly (Lib) to keep his seat.
Assistant District Attorney Suzanne L. Matthews (R) is running against R. Andrew Porter (D) to become the next district attorney for Harnett and Lee Counties. On her website, Matthews cites a strong commitment to upholding the Constitution and fighting the opioid crisis. Porter’s mentions a committment to prioritizing increased prosecution of sexual assault and DWI cases.

Five candidates are running for three seats on the Hoke County Board of Commissioners. The only incumbent running for re-election is Chairman James A. Leach (D).
Four candidates are running to join the Board of Education. Like in the Commissioners race, only one incumbent is running for re-election: Rosa Mcallister-Mcrae.

Four competitive seats are open in the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. Incumbents running for re-election are Chairman Ted G. Godwin (R) against Wendy Ella May (D) in District 2, Larry Wood (R) against Alan Lamont (D) in District 4 and Tony Braswell (R) against Gettys Cohen Jr. (D) in District 6.

Three candidates are running for two seats on the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners. All three are Democrats. Two are incumbents: Pat Cotham and ​Ella B. Scarborough.

There are seven candidates running for all five seats on the Person County Schools Board of Education. Several incumbents are running for re-election to the board, including Vice Chair Freda Tillman, Margaret Bradsher, Phillip Gillis, and Harriett Tillett. Chairwoman Kay Allen is the only incumbent not running for re-election.

Two competitive Board of Education seats are on the ballot. Both incumbents in these races are running for re-election, Patricia A. Burden in District 3 and Ven Faulk representing the county at-large. Their challengers are Robert Freeman and Tommy Sanders respectively.
