FORT BRAGG, N.C. — A military homecoming was delayed Friday because of mechanical difficulties with a transport plane, officials said.

About 100 paratroopers in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team was scheduled to return to Fort Bragg from Iraq Friday morning, but their plane broke down in Iceland, officials said.

The soldiers were expected to arrive back in North Carolina Saturday morning.

The brigade has spent 15 months in Iraq and was the first to be deployed as part of the troop surge strategy employed by the U.S.
