DURHAM, N.C. — Commuters will need to prepare for another ramp closure near downtown Durham as they head out for their morning commute on Monday.

The Department of Transportation has been working to build a new Alston Avenue bridge over the Durham Freeway and the project is moving into a new phase.

The contractor will be closing the ramp from the southbound side of Alston Avenue onto the northbound Durham Freeway beginning Monday morning.

The closure will remain in place for about a month as crews realign the ramp.

The ramp from the southbound freeway onto Alston Avenue was closed last week.

The best alternate route for drivers will be to take Briggs Avenue.

Crews hope to have the new, wider Alston Avenue bridge open by Memorial Day weekend, but they’ll be widening more than a mile of Alston Avenue in that area into next year.
