Pitt County man charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and assault

Michael Crandell, 44, is charged with attempted murder, kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault on a female, according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.

PITT COUNTY, N.C. — A Pitt County man is facing new charges, including attempted murder.

Michael Crandell, 44, is also charged with kidnapping, assault by strangulation and assault on a female, according to the Pitt County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, the sheriff's office received a report of a string of assaults on Friday that had occurred in a vehicle in multiple locations around Ayden.

Crandell was already in custody for DWI, driving with a revoked license and speeding by the time he was charged with the additional crimes.

Crandell is being held without bond in the Pitt County Detention Center.​ The case is still under investigation.
