Pilot's condition downgraded to serious

A longtime pilot who crashed into the shoulder of I-85 near Red Mill Road on Friday is listed in serious condition, a nurse supervisor said Thursday.

DURHAM, N.C. — A longtime pilot who crashed into the shoulder of I-85 near Red Mill Road on Friday is listed in serious condition, a nurse supervisor said Thursday.

Durham County sheriff's deputy Rick Fuller was flying a 1947 Piper J3C plane when it crashed around 7 p.m.

Fuller was transported in critical condition to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, where he had been upgraded to fair condition Monday before being returned to critical condition Tuesday.
