MAYSVILLE, N.C. — An Onslow County man was injured Wednesday morning when the plane he was operating crashed as he was trying to take off from a private airstrip.

Robert Evans Jr., 64, was the only person on board the small aircraft when its engine stalled around 7:40 a.m.

The Pegazair 100 aircraft crashed in a small field off White Oak River Road, about 10 miles north of Jacksonville.

Evans, who owns the plane, broke his arm and had some soreness and bruising, 1st Sgt. David Oglesby, with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, said.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, Oglesby said.
