RALEIGH, N.C. — A popular North Carolina State Fair attraction will go dark this year.

The Hogway Speedway Racing Pigs will not be racing this year, as pig racing announcer and founder Dennis Cook has retired, the fair announced Monday.

"Neither our fair staff nor Dennis can remember when his first appearance at the N.C. State Fair was, but it's safe to say that hundreds of thousands of us have become fans of not just his four-legged friends, but of the entire Cook family," the fair Tweeted. "Here's to many happy days on excursions with his grandkids for our friend who has become family. We will definitely miss you at the N.C. State Fair!"

Known as the Circle C Racing Pigs, this attraction has been a fan favorite for decades. WRAL even managed to get a camera on a pig one year to capture the magic of the races from their perspective.
The North Carolina State Fair is Oct. 13-23 at the State Fairgrounds.
