RALEIGH, N.C. — A pickup truck crashed into a Raleigh apartment building Saturday evening, and the driver fled the scene on foot, police said.

Eight units were damaged in the wreck at 702 Wexford Drive around 6:30 p.m. No one was injured.

The driver, Ramiro Sanchez, 38, was later charged with hit-and-run.

The eight families who lived in the apartments aren't able to stay there until authorities can make sure the building is safe, said Barry Porter, with the Triangle chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Red Cross helped six of the families find shelter, while the other two were able to stay with relatives or friends, he said.

The families were allowed to go into their apartments Sunday to retrieve some personal belongings.
