Pickup truck brings down power pole in downtown Raleigh

Crews were busy replacing a broken power pole in downtown Raleigh on Thursday morning after a truck crashed into it, snapping it in half, overnight.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Crews were busy replacing a broken power pole in downtown Raleigh early Thursday morning after a truck crashed into it, snapping it in half, overnight.

The crash occurred before 1 a.m. on West Morgan Street near Mayo Street.

Crews at the scene told WRAL News a pickup truck hit the pole, snapping it at its base.

Duke Energy was at the scene all night, and crews were still making repairs at 5 a.m.

Officials did not know when the road would reopen.

There were some reports of power outages in the area.

WRAL News is working to learn more about the condition of the driver and what caused the crash.
