CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The staff of a Chapel Hill farm said a pet turkey appears to have been stolen on Thanksgiving.

Lindsey Schwartz, daughter of 1870 Farm’s owner, said staff was away from the farm on Thanksgiving.

When she went to feed the 3-year-old turkey, named Mr. Gobbles, on Friday morning, his enclosure was empty.

She doesn’t believe Mr. Gobbles wandered out because the enclosure’s door was closed Friday.

There aren’t signs Mr. Gobbles was harmed in his enclosure, she said.

“We are hoping this was a terrible prank and that our turkey will be returned, unharmed,” 1870 Farm posted on Facebook. “If anyone has seen or heard anything about this, please message us.”

Mr. Gobbles’ mate, named November, has called for him since Friday, Schwartz said.

She said she was shocked at the apparent theft, as an animal had never been stolen from the farm before.

Schwartz was reporting the incident to the Chapel Hill Police Department on Saturday, although the farm doesn’t want to press charges.

Schwartz said she just wants Mr. Gobbles returned.
