CLAYTON, N.C. — In the hours after gunshots shattered the windows of the Queen Nails and Spa on U.S. 70 West Business in Clayton, police detectives used surveillance video and witness interviews to piece together an early morning shootout and issue a warrant for the arrest of one man.

Police say Reginald Derrell Sanders Jr. got into a fight with another man inside a Circle K convenience store. Both men left the store, got into their cars and, as they drove away, fired shots. Marquise LeShawn Taylor was struck by a bullet in the leg, police said.

The gun battle frightened a Circle K employee to lock himself in a restroom, and windows were broken in the nail salon, the convenience store and a nearby Food Lion.

Queenie Eang, owner of Queen Nails, said, "Imagine if I was here at night, got shot from that? It could be worse."

Sanders is wanted on charges of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and structure and damage to property. As of 5 p.m., he was not in custody.

Police radio traffic from Broadcastify described the scene. "Two males enter the store, had beef with each other started shooting each other," the recording says.

The cashier said he heard the two men go outside, and that’s when the shooting started.

Eang was counting her blessings that no one was seriously injured.

"I feel the blessing and be positive and fixing the shop as soon as possible to get to my customers soon," she said.
