PERSON COUNTY, N.C. — A baby boy was abducted in Person County by his father, who took his son without permission, on Thursday.

Authorities say that Gregory Newman, stole a vehicle, had a fight with the child's mother, and drove off with their son, Gabriel Newman.

An amber alert for Gabriel was sent out on Thursday night, and the community was on high alert. Authorities believed that Gabriel was in danger.

The two were last seen driving a black 2015 Volkswagen Passat on N.C. Highway 57 north, toward Danville, Virginia.

Gabriel is home safe after being abuducted on Thursday.

U.S. Marshalls found Gabriel safe on the highway, and arrested Newman in Virginia. He was returned to his family on Friday afternoon.

His father is now facing several charges.

Records show Newman was arrested two years ago for strangling a woman.

Gabriel Newman is a year old and lives in Person County.
