Fayetteville, N.C. — An Amtrak train collided with a car Friday afternoon in Cumberland County, a county Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The train, No. 89 Palmetto traveling from New York City to Savannah, Ga., hit the car a few miles north of the Fayetteville station, between River and State roads, troopers said.
One person in the car was killed. None of the 159 people on board the train were injured. The train was delayed for almost two hours, according to Amtrak.
In a statement, Amtrak said the train was traveling at about 42 mph. The authorized speed limit for that area is 79 mph.
