19-year-old Hope Mills man killed in shooting at Fayetteville motel parking lot

Markus Richard Samples, 19, from Hope Mills, was pronounced dead on the scene. His family has been notified, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Two people were shot in the parking lot of a Fayetteville motel early Wednesday morning and one was killed.

Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the Travelodge motel at 2076 Cedar Creek Road around 3:15 a.m.

Markus Richard Samples, 19, from Hope Mills, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.

Another man, 21, also from Hope Mills, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Authorities said Thursday afternoon that he is expected to survive.

Police have not made any arrests in connection to the shooting.
