RALEIGH, N.C. — The Cary Police Department responded to a shooting at a motel Sunday that left one person injured.

Police said a shooting occurred at the Motel 6 on Buck Jones Road in Cary near South Hills plaza.

One person was shot and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police have not said if they have anyone in custody in connection to the shooting.

Mohammad Ali, the owner of a car shop next to the hotel, told WRAL News he’s been there for 26 years and he’s seen dozens of shootings at the motel.

Ali said there’s constantly a crime scene at the motel and he’s losing out on customers and sales.

He’s also had several break-ins. It’s gotten so bad, he said he rarely brings his family around and even had to invest in security.

“Domestic violence. Drug busts. Prostitution. The latest, a shooting here. Shots fired,” said Ali. “Every time I come and do some work at night my wife says 'be careful when you open the door' a lot of times we handle ... money and there’s definitely concern.”

Ali said other business owners are also being impacted by crime.

Cary police told WRAL News the shooting that took place is still under investigation.
