Person dies in Fayetteville house fire

One person has died following a Sunday night fire, according to Fayetteville officials.

Around 8:45 p.m., crews responded to a fire at 901 McKimmon Road. Officials said smoke was coming from the single-story home, and bystanders and neighbors advised firefighters on scene that there was possibly someone inside.

Crews entered the house and located one victim, who was quickly removed and treated by firefighters before being transported to the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition. The patient died at the hospital.

The victim's name has not been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
