Driver dies after vehicle collides with tractor trailer in Johnston County

According to NC Highway Patrol troopers, the accident happened just before 2 p.m. Monday. A pickup truck was heading northbound on Richardson Bridge Road south of Smithfield and west of Mar-Mac. As it rounded a curve, it drove head-on into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer.

A trooper who was not far behind the accident was first on the scene and found the pickup driver pinned in his vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor trailer driver reported no injuries.

The driver was identified by the Highway Patrol at Dameon Matthew Mills, 33, of Princeton.

Cleanup was expected to be finished by 5:30 p.m. and the road will be reopened. The accident remains under investigation.
