Wake Forest, N.C. — A Wake Forest resident is receiving treatment after being bitten by a rabid kitten on Tuesday.
Authorities said a person was attacked by the kitten on Height Lane on June 19 and test results released on June 20 show the animal tested positive for rabies.
The chance of encountering rabid animals increases as temperatures rise and Wake County officials remind residents to avoid handling wildlife or stray animals.
If an animal showing signs of rabies bites your pet, the pet is at risk for exposure and vaccinated pets will require a rabies booster shot within 72 hours of the bite.
To report a potentially rabid animal call animal control at 919-856-6911.
