Perdue adds nominees to Board of Transportation

Gov. Bev Perdue appointed six new members to the North Carolina Board of Transportation Tuesday.

RALEIGH, N.C. — Gov. Bev Perdue appointed six new members to the North Carolina Board of Transportation Tuesday.

John Collett, Leigh Harvey McNairy, Maj. Gen. Hugh R. Overholt, Wanda J. Proffitt, Charles D. Watts Jr. and Ralph Womble join the 19-member body which advises the state Secretary of Transportation and approves the allocation of funds.

Collett is the chairman of Collett & Associates, a commercial real estate development business in Charlotte.

McNairy serves as secretary for the board of directors of the N.C. Eastern Regional Partnership for Economic Development.

Overholt, a retired major general of the U.S. Army, is an attorney for Ward & Smith in New Bern.

Womble is a retired vice president from Leggett & Platt in Winston-Salem.

Watts was the senior vice president of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company in Durham from 1998 to 2007.

Proffitt is the president and owner of Carolina Mountain Realty, Inc. in Burnsville.
