Pedestrian struck and killed in Goldsboro

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A woman was struck and killed by a transfer truck on U.S. Highway 70 in Goldsboro Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Tammy Ray Ferrell, 39, was walking from a nearby motel when she was hit by a transfer truck around 10 p.m., police said. She was wearing all black and stepped into the road from behind a disabled vehicle. No charges were expected against the driver, who tried to avoid hitting her at the last minute. The investigation is ongoing.
