Goldsboro, N.C. — A 53-year-old man was killed early Friday while crossing U.S. Highway 70 near Goldsboro, according to the state Highway Patrol.
A passing driver found the body of Richard Leon Cook, of Jackson Springs, in the westbound lane of U.S. 70 about 4 miles west of Goldsboro at about 7:30 a.m., authorities said.
Troopers said they believe Cook was hit by a commercial vehicle at about 4 a.m. His 2010 Dodge Avenger was on the shoulder of the highway about 100 yards from where his body was found, they said.
The incident remains under investigation.
