Pedestrian killed in Durham train crash

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in Durham Tuesday evening, police said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak train in Durham Tuesday evening, police said.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m., about a quarter-mile from the train crossing on Buchanan Boulevard near West Main Street.

The eastbound 76 Piedmont passenger train was heading to Raleigh from Charlotte and traveling 55 mph at the time of the wreck, an Amtrak spokesperson said. None of the train's 35 passengers or crew members were hurt.

The train was stopped on the tracks while authorities investigated. It resumed its trip shortly before 10 p.m.

Investigators said they have not identified the victim.

No other information was released.
